Providing custom engineering solutions for drinking water, purification and process chilling applications with a focus on sustainability for over 115 years, Filtrine Manufacturing Company has been named to the 2019 Forbes Small Giants List. Filtrine is one of only 25 companies in the United States to receive this award. Selected by a team from the Small Giants Community and Forbes magazine, each nominee is reviewed for its commitment to six qualities: purpose, leadership, culture, finance, customers and community.
“We are proud to be recognized as a leader in our industry and our community”, said Peter Hansel, President (President at the time, now Chairman of the Board), “We continually strive to deliver the best products to our customers, promote a healthy workplace and be good stewards of our environment.”
Since 2016, Forbes and the Small Giants Community celebrate 25 standout businesses each year that favor greatness over growth. The companies selected are all privately owned, profitable and at least ten years old.
Founded in 1901 by George Kneuper in Brooklyn, NY, Charles Hansel, Sr. bought the Filtrine plant in 1918 seeing an opportunity in city water filtration. The company, under Hansel leadership, expanded its product lines to include drinking fountain equipment and large chillers. As the company continued to grow, the plant was moved three times ending up in Keene, NH. Now in its fifth generation of family ownership, Filtrine has invented many industry firsts such as the remote type water cooler and stainless steel drinking fountain. In 2018, Filtrine celebrated 100 years of family ownership.
