A Remote Central Drinking Water Chiller Dispenses Chilled/Purified Water to Filtrine Drinking Fountains on Multiple Floors
Equinox Fitness clubs are “dedicated to the art, science and style of living well.” They offer soothing spas, exclusive boutiques and innovative classes. To support their mission, the interior designers and owners of Equinox set out with the goal to build an environmentally sound (LEED-certified) fitness center that occupies three floors in the heart of downtown Bethesda, Maryland in the Washington, DC area. Along with sustainable cork flooring and “low flow” fixtures in the restrooms, the design team wanted to push the sustainable envelope with beautiful, elegant drinking water fountains that also promote the use of reusable bottles and provide a high quality water to their gym members.
Filtrine, seeing that sustainability and aesthetics were primary goals on this project and there was an existing centralized wet column through the middle of the Equinox space, proposed delivering city supply water to all three floors from a single Filtrine Model ES-8-RFC-FS drinking water chiller/purifier. Located in a mechanical room on the first floor, the ES-8-RFC-FS chiller was the most energy efficient option (serving six outlets with a single compressor.) This was directly in-line with the primary goals of the project. Along with being energy efficient, the ES-8-RFC-FS chiller ensured that all the water being served was refreshingly cool, without impurities, and devoid of any chlorine taste or odor using a Filtrine Taste Master® purifier. In order to promote the use of reusable bottles, Filtrine also provided six Filtrine Model 90MOD single drinking fountains (two per floor), with optional water bottle fillers installed in the rear cover plates. The fountains give the members and staff the choice to grab a quick drink through a traditional water bubbler, or to refill their sport bottles with the water bottle filler. Each fountain has a sign indicating that the fountain/glass filler is “serving filtered water” which further promotes use of the system to encourage members to use refillable water bottles.
